Abstract
The world has witnessed a culture of violence and war for some time now. This is more so in the Middle East than perhaps in any other region on the planet. Protracted conflicts have often succeeded in destroying public health services in disaster areas such as Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Palestine, South Sudan, etc. The issue of public health crises in war has been frequently addressed. Building on Kuhn’s theory of paradigm shifts, we argue for the importance of classifying wars under a new paradigm, mainly as an endemic. It is this new conceptual framework that will allow one to reverse or mitigate the effects of war and that will have impact on much needed revised healthcare policies, education, laws, and regulations.
